Lake at Night

Led by leather boots
dancing on dilapidated docks
unsteady feet are balanced with unsure hands
on uncertain shoulders.

Goodnight times two leaves us
parted, splintered, halved

my jacket lies in leaves abandoned
bowed at the foot of the lake.

rubber soles thwacking rutted path
jacket reclaimed
you are settled into the earth
calloused hands battling the guitar strings
bringing the lake to it’s knees.
